Update on Trust Meetings with Rangers Football Club

As it is now well over three months since our meeting in Edinburgh with both David Murray and Martin Bain (significantly, John McClelland was not present) and there has yet to be any tangible outcome, the Trust Board feel able to publish the following details of this Meeting.

There were three items put forward, each by a different Trust Board member, as follows:-

1. Finance – Malcolm McNiven
2. Supporters Representation – Mark Dingwall
3. Media – Colin Glass

Both our hosts were open and courteous throughout the 100 minute meeting, and the two action points arising were for further information on our proposals on the first two items to be submitted in writing to the Club for further consideration by the Club. This was promptly followed up – Malcolm McNiven outlining a capital raising initiative which would have seen David Murray dilute his holding, but still retain overall control – and Colin Glass outlining the mechanics of the election(s) for supporters representation to the Board, as well as recommending the early co-option of 2 Supporter Directors, only 1 of whom would come from the Trust. Both these appointments would then require ratification at the Club’s next AGM. We felt that given the size of the current Rangers FC plc Board, and the sheer size of the club, that two Supporter Directors would have been a reasonable position for the club to take.

Whilst the attendees at the Meeting felt there was some genuine chance of some progress being made, it would appear that since the Chairman has become involved, matters have ground to a halt.

We publish this today, four weeks in advance of our own AGM, as we wish to keep all our members as fully briefed as possible, and will be happy to take specific questions on any further detail at our own AGM on Sunday 18 July.

Clyde Tunnel Update

Further to our post last month concerning forthcoming delays at night, travelling to/from midweek games at Ibrox, the Council have advised that this work will now not commence until 23 August, and will last until the end of September NEXT year. Fans are therefore advised to either allow substantial extra time for travelling, or seek alternative routes via the Kingston or Erskine Bridges or the Underground.

Trust AGM postponed by 24 hours

For the soundest of reasons, which will be revealed at the AGM itself, we have to announce today that the AGM is being pushed back by 24 hours, from Saturday 17 July to Sunday 18 July; the venue, as previously intimated, will still be Partick Burgh Halls.

The Trust Board wish to apologise for any inconvenience this change may make, but we have given as much advance notice of this as possible, and it is our intention to hold the 2005 AGM on the day of a home game at the start of next season. This year, however, for procedural reasons, we shall be hosting it slightly earlier than normal, and with Rangers playing in England on each of the following two weekends, 18 July is now the best available date for us. Formal invitations will be issued later this month.
