Meeting with First Minister – Friday 7 January

A member of the Rangers Supporters Trust Board at the invitation of the Rangers Assembly was present at the meeting with the First Minister, Jack McConnell, last Friday. The First Minister had invited fans from both clubs to attend. In total 4 Rangers fans from the Assembly were present along with 4 Celtic fans from various supporters' organisations. Cathy Jamieson, Minister for Justice, was also present.

The objective of the meeting was to ask both clubs to consider the possibility of working together with the common aim of eradicating sectarianism from football.

No major issues were discussed at the meeting however an agreement was made that representatives from the Rangers Assembly would meet with Cathy Jamieson in the near future and at a later stage hold a possible joint meeting with representatives from the Celtic fans' organisations.

The representatives from the Rangers Assembly made it clear to the First Minister that any discussions between both Rangers and Celtic fans would take place on an even basis with no side being blamed as worse than the other.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from the Rangers Assembly that a meeting would be held in the near future with Cathy Jamieson.
